About us - Powwow drums, hand drums, native music

gathering champions

We are Robert and Joywind, native artists of Shuswap
, Simpcw First Nations, British Columbia and Mohawk/Scottish descent. We live in the Laurentian mountains north of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. For more than a decade, we have applied our skills and dedication to building native spiritual tools, and sharing on the powwow trail. We have a busy schedule which includes drum making, art shows, conferences, and traveling powwows all over North America. Through our work, we support the sharing of traditions and teachings of Canada’s tribal peoples. Our specialty is our powwow drum, and it has become very popular! We are extremely honoured to have some of the best and most well- known drum groups playing our drums. We build a wide range of hand drum styles and sizes, which can be heard at Round Dances all over Indian Country.

We live in a region where many people still hunt to feed their families. The meat is the priority, so most of the rest of the animals are simply discarded. Each fall, we gather these wild hides of deer and moose, and stack, salt and transport them to a Canadian tannery. This recuperation process results in beautiful hides that we then use for all our drums and leather products. Our Drum Bags and Hand Bags are unique and stand out from the crowd!

More recently, we have created our own record label for native musicians, called Tribal Spirit Fair Trade Music. Similar to fair trade agriculture, the idea is to economically reward the artists (farmers) for their hard work and creativity. Gone can be the days of the poor musicians who don’t see a cent for their song! We are teaming up our skills as drummaker, singers, producer, songwriters, promotors, recording engineer etc and encouraging the best in all of us. The result has been ambitious, traditional, excellent and beautiful.  We hope that you like our collaborative effort.
