We are an internationally renowned group of Mi'kmaq singers from Canada's east coast. Since 1993, we have performed at many of North America's most prestigious powwows, including The Gathering of Nations in Alburquerque, New Mexico, the Shakopee Wacipi in Minnesota, and the Schemitzun World Championships in Connecticut (placing 3rd in 2008). We have also been the host drum at many powwows throughout Eastern Canada, including the Grand River Champion of Champions Powwow in Six Nations, Ontario.
We have worked on films with Walt Disney Pictures and CBC, and have been guests on A's Breakfast Television, APTN's Eastern Tides and the Candy Show. In addition, we have collaborated with artists such as George Paul & the Red Ocre Band. We have performed at the ECMA's Cultural Showcase in Prince Edward Island and at the 2009 Culturefest in New Brunswick, opening for one of Canada's most famous bands, Blue Rodeo. As well, we do cultural workshops for schools and government agencies.
In 2009, Eastern Eagle was nominated for Best Aboriginal Recording of the Year at the Nova Scotia Music Awards.
During our flight as Eastern Eagle, we have met many inspirational people. The drum has taken us to places and has shown us things that we have only once dreamt of. We have always remembered the reason why the drum first called us, to sing for the people. We have never forgotten the songs and teachings of the old, of our Mi'kmaq ancestors.
Thank you all for the support you have given us throughout the years.
